Laura Mansfield understands the value of health insurance that includes personal support from a caring UPMC Health Plan nurse. “I’m a diabetic, and that prompts some special attention,” she says. “I really do appreciate that the Health Plan takes the time to call and check on me on a regular basis.

“They got me to focus on taking care of myself again. It means a lot to know that someone else wants me to keep my weight under control and asks about my blood sugar levels. The Health Plan calls with reminders to have regular eye exams and to visit my physician at the first sign of a foot problem.”

Laura Mansfield participates in our health management program, which focuses on enhancing health and quality of life for members with medical problems such as diabetes, asthma, and congestive heart failure. Our health management nurses help members who are enrolled in the program to learn about their conditions, to properly care for themselves, and to appreciate the importance of appropriate testing and prevention before a health crisis occurs.

We’re constantly re-evaluating our products and services and updating them based on feedback from members as well as from business and government customers. Our goal is to satisfy customers—whether that means offering one-on-one services such as the health management program, developing user-friendly online services, creating new plan designs that meet customer needs, or adjusting service hours to meet peak call times.

Our health management program takes maximum advantage of our connection to the world-class medical facilities of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Along with the premier teaching and research hospitals and facilities that are part of UPMC, our network includes high-quality community hospitals and tertiary care hospitals throughout western Pennsylvania and parts of Maryland and West Virginia. We now have 78 hospitals in our network.

Ms. Mansfield’s involvement with the health management program exemplifies our efforts to improve the health of the people we serve and to help to drive down health care costs for employers. These efforts cannot be successful without the full partnership of the physicians in our network.
