Our
Mission
Guided
by the principle of treating others as we want to be treated,
UPMC Health Plan will build the nation’s best service-centered
health benefits company to provide the highest-quality products
at an affordable price to families, individuals, and employers.
We will
achieve this mission by meeting these goals: satisfying customers;
growing membership; controlling expenses; and improving the
health of people living in the communities we serve.
Our
Values
We will
work in partnership with the physicians, hospitals, and other
providers in our network, delegating to them great discretion
and decision-making authority to provide the best possible
medical care for their patients. In return, we ask them to
be medically and financially accountable for their decisions.
And we will provide them the information they need to be accountable.
We will
continue to embrace our relationship with the University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center, our parent organization, because
of its stature as a world-class center of excellence for medical
care and medical research. We will provide UPMC with reasonable
returns on its investment into the Health Plan, and we will
continue to be the financing arm of an integrated health delivery
system that includes UPMC, its owned and affiliated hospitals,
its physicians, and its ancillary operations.
We recognize
employees as our most valuable asset, and will give them the
tools, training, and leadership they need to do their jobs
well, take pride in what they do, and attain their personal
levels of success.
Finally,
we will treat every stakeholder in the Health Plan with dignity,
honesty, and respect. We will conduct our affairs in a capable
and fair manner so that people will be proud to be associated
with us—as employees, members, physicians and other
providers, employers, corporate owners, and the communities
we serve.
